Module 1 - ORCAview Applications for Building Operators (2 day)

This course introduces users to Delta's line of BACnet products and the ORCAview software. Building operators will learn how to navigate the ORCAview graphic interface, recognize and adjust parameters in standard BACnet objects, modify alarm settings, generate reports and use trend logs to review system operation.

Prerequisite: None
Course Content: System architecture, Basic panel objects, Navigator, Trend Logs/Multi Trends, Basic Alarm Processing, Reports, system security, system backup, reading GCL
 

Module 2 - ORCAview Applications for Energy Management Level 1 (2 days)

This course will explore how to use ORCAview to properly monitor and make simple operational modifications to save energy and improve the performance and efficiency of the central physical plant. A focus will be on the appropriate software objects and simple sequences that promote energy saving opportunities. A brief review of DDC metering practices will be covered.

Prerequisite: Module 1
Course Content: Scheduling,Optimized start, common sequences for energy optimization of fan systems, boiler and chiller plants.
 

Module 3 - Controls Programming Level 1 (1 day)

This course demonstrates how to write and debug basic programs using the most commonly utilized programming practices and GCL commands in the ORCAview software. The session is a series of hands-on exercises that will illustrate basic programming strategies for controlling the most frequently encountered HVAC mechanical systems.

Prerequisite: Module 1 or equivalent experience on Delta product
Course Content: Modular programming; GCL editor in Navigator; GCL execution; Commands, Functions, status operators; Arithmetic, logical operators; Conditional statements, Subroutines; System variables ; PI controllers; Common HVAC strategies; Troubleshooting tips
 


Advanced Courses

Module 4 - ORCAview Applications for Energy Management Level 2 (2 days)

This course will explore terminal unit operation and energy savings oppotunities for VAVs, Fan Coil Units and Heat Pumps. Additional stategies for energy saving for central fan systems will be investigated. Electrical energy meters will be setup and wired to live lab equipment to monitor and record energy consumption. The setup of Energy Dashboards and their use to communicate energy consumption and energy savings will also be covered.

Prerequisite: Module 1, Module 2 and Module 3
Course Content: Electrical Metering, Energy Dashboards, Terminal Units, Central Fan Systems.
 

Module 5 - Controls Programming Level 2 (1 day)

This course will introduce and explore more complex GCL commands, control sequences and programming routines. Display programming for DNS24Ls and DHMIs will also be covered. The session is a series of hands-on exercises that will illustrate advanced programming strategies for controlling HVAC systems and troubleshooting complex control sequences.

Module 6 - ORCAview Applications for Lighting Management (1 day)

The Delta Controls lighting product will be used to demonstrate the proper setup of motion sensors, photocells and schedules to optimize lighting energy consumption in a building.

Prerequisite: Module 1 or equivalent experience on Delta product
Course Content: Light Harvesting, Phototcell, Scheduling, Motion Detect and Latch, Lighting Zoning, Exterior Lighting, Lighting Refrofits, Lighting Levels, Lighting Technologies, Lighting Energy Management.
 


Specialized Courses

Module 7 - Internet and DDC Networks (1 day)

This course reviews the Delta hardware and networking rules that allow Delta BACnet devices to communicate over a WAN. The course will simulate several common WAN configurations and discuss the applicable troubleshooting procedures for each type of network architecture.

Prerequisite: Module 1
Course Content: WAN terminology, Hardware selection and Router configuration, networking rules
 

Module 8 - Graphics Training for Building Operators (1 day)

This course explores applications of Illustrator for graphical enhancement of ORCAview and ORCAweb. The course will enable the user to customize their building graphics to improve access and navigation of the HVAC & lighting systems.

Prerequisite: Module 1
Course Content: Database object linking , button Navigation, Menus, 3D Graphics, Embedding BMP and JPG images, Animation
 

Module 9 - Application Controller Installation and Programming (2 days)

This course focuses on Delta Controls BACnet Application Controllers including the Delta Controls Lighting Controller. Application controllers are typically used for Heat Pumps, Fan Coil Units, VAV boxes and Rooftop Units. It teaches the skills necessary to adjust important parameters in the controller and remove/replace common MS/TP devices. Setup and basic programming of lighting controllers will also be covered.

Prerequisite: Module 1 and Module 3
Course Content: System architecture, controller replacement – addressing, parameter adjustment, database save/load. Networking rules and Data Exchange methods, Network Thermostats, Field Modules. Lighting controllers.
